Morgan LaPlante

Morgan was born in Medfield, MA in 1996. She was brought up by parents passionate about architecture and art, and being homeschooled was given time and encouragement to study painting, from a young age. On trips to museums, Morgan often wondered how paintings were made, why the artist chose to paint a subject, and what made them stand out through time. As she grew her interest in art only deepened. In search of answers, Morgan studied drawing and painting under Timothy Rees at the Rees Atelier. In addition, she has attended workshops with artists Susan Lyon, Daniel Keys, Teresa Oaxaca, and Michelle Dunaway

Along the way Morgan has received honorable mentions for her paintings in the Scottsdale Artists’ School’s Best and Brightest show in 2019. Her work was featured in the Zullo Gallery’s 2014, 2015 and 2019 juried shows. Morgan’s work was showcased in the Zullo Gallery’s 2019 Holiday Exhibition. Her painting “Daydreaming” was a finalist in the Portrait Society of America’s 2020 International Portrait Competition and was awarded Silver Medal in The Guild of Boston Artists’ 2020 Juried Exhibition.

Through her studies and experiences Morgan has come to believe that one purpose for art is to study questions there aren’t definitive answers for.

“Each painting is an exploration of an idea. A conversation between myself, the subject, and eventually the viewer. I believe that each of us plays a part in the meaning art has. What we choose to look at, and create gives a painting value that it would not otherwise have.”
